April was an exciting time for us at RTR Services as we arranged a couple of Sustainability events, which were dedicated to focusing on our company’s environmental responsibility and well-being. The month’s aim was to make a positive impact on our community and the planet.
A. Clothes Recycling Day
On Wednesday 10th April we encouraged our office staff to clean out their wardrobes and recycle their unwanted or unworn clothes by donating them to a deserving charity.
Our charity of choice is The Salvation Army, which stands as a beacon of hope and aid for millions around the globe, earning its reputation as one of the most respected and impactful charitable organisations.
It provides food and shelter to the homeless, disaster relief, addiction rehabilitation programs, and community outreach initiatives. The organisation addresses both immediate crises and long-term issues affecting individuals and families.
It’s very simple to do yourself, so the next time you have a clear out of your wardrobes always consider taking what no longer serves your purpose to a local charity shop/charity drop point.
It gave the clothes a second life while making a positive impact for a worthwhile charity.

B. Litter Picking Event
Our second event took place on Wednesday 24th April.
The team at RTR Wakes Colne played their part in being a step towards a more sustainable company by doing some litter picking around their business park.
Although the office is based on an already very clean estate, there is often litter blown in from the road/members of public, and we want to ensure this is recycled properly.
There are multiple factors to littering being harmful, some of the main factors being environmental impact, aesthetic degradation, habitat destruction and chemical contamination.
This is something that can easily be prevented or minimalised, but this starts with us an individual making small changes in how we dispose of our rubbish.
There are plenty of ways to play a part in this, you could start by separating your waste into different bins, cleaning your items before binning (e.g containers/cartons) and even going the extra mile and supporting local recycling programmes.
It was also a great opportunity to bond with colleagues while making a visible impact on the local environment near our offices.
